2013 White Pine Press Poetry Contest Winner

White Pine Press is pleased to announce that Tim Skeen has been awarded the Nineteenth Annual White Pine Press Poetry Prize for his manuscript, Risk. Selected by final judge Gary Young, the book will be published in the fall of 2014. Mr. Skeen also receives a cash prize of one thousand dollars.


Skeen, who won the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry in 2001 for his book Kentucky Swami, coordinates the MFA Program in Creative Writing at  California State University, Fresno. A graduate of the Ph.D. Program in Creative Writing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, his poems appear in many journals and magazines. He lives in Fresno with his wife, Pam, and daughter, Iris.


The two runner ups, chosen from the 25 finalists were: Tornado Machine by Kathleen McGookey and Afternoon Masala by Vandana Khanana.
